Project overview:

The Shanghai Jiangpu Road River Crossing Tunnel is one of the major municipal projects in Shanghai during the "13th Five Year Plan" period. The tunnel generally runs in a north-south direction, starting from Jiangpu Road and Longjiang Road in Yangpu District in the north, crossing the Huangpu River by shield, and ending at Minsheng Road and Shangcheng Road in Pudong New Area in the south. The total length of the tunnel is 2.28km, of which the shield section is 770m long, two-way four lane. The large diameter slurry balance shield machine "Jiangpu" and "Minsheng" is used. The equipment is jointly developed by CRCC Heavy Industry and Shanghai Infrastructure Corporation, and has full independent intellectual property rights. The excavation diameter of the equipment reaches 11.63m.


Project characteristics and difficulties:

The Shanghai Jiangpu Road cross river tunnel undercuts the Huangpu River, which is characterized by large excavation section, complex hydrogeological conditions, large variation of overburden thickness and high permeability coefficient. The tunnel passes through silt, sandy soil and other soft soil layers for a long distance, and the minimum overburden thickness of the tunnel in the middle of the river is only 7m, which brings great challenges to the attitude control of the shield machine, cutter head and construction operations.
